While hunting for a new flat, especially in a metro city like Bangalore, it is important to make a checklist of a few essential things.

It can be hard to remember all the question or queries while looking for a house for rent in Bangalore, so to avoid this fuzziness follow your checklist.

There are a few things that you must remember before renting a house or signing a lease contract:

things to consider when renting a house

1. What is a Lease contract?

Whether you’re looking for an apartment on a short term basis or for long term, intrusively ask for a few important questions first.

Ask about the lease contract, which is a contract that defines the rights and duties of both the landlord and the tenant.

It maintains the rental relationship of both landlord and tenant by following their rights & duties properly.

2. Check the facilities provided in the rooms, kitchen and washroom

Pay attention to the cabinet size while looking for a nice kitchen. It should be spacious enough.

The mandatory requirements in a bedroom include an AC unit, minimum size that would accommodate your favourite sleeping furniture easily and a window that would wake you up with great morning sunshine.

Many people prefer attached bathrooms, so make sure to look for this if it is your requirement too and don’t forget to check for water pressure and the drainage system.

Most people forget to ask about hot water availability which becomes a big problem, especially during the winter season. So, confirm this before you land your goodies at a rented house.

3. Don’t overlook Network Services

This is something that easily overlooked. Check if the apartment location has good network availability and the voice & internet connections are functioning well enough.

Since internet has now become a basic need of our lives, network issues stand unavoidable.

4. Neighbours or Roommates are important too, talk to them before you sign a contract

Look to your right and left properly! Your neighbours will also be the part of your habitat.

If you’re moving in with roommates, then ask for a few things clearly like how they manage the household cost, bathroom sharing, everyday schedule and the rest.

If you get a chance to meet your roommates or neighbour before shifting then spend some time with them as this would help you know more about them.

5. Confirm if you have to pay some amount in advance

‘Discretion is the better part of valour’, so enquire clearly about advance payments. The tenants should seek advice from Citizen Advice in case a landlord is using statutory procedure to increase the rent.

Ask for all the documents on paper. Give time to your lease contract and read your agreement thoroughly so that no conflict arises later.

6. Search the area properly

Searching for a new apartment can be fun but it requires seriousness to search the area properly before you move in. What’s the distance of the hospital from your apartment? Is it a noisy place?

Beyond all these, small but important requirements like laundry, grocery shop, parking zone, medical store and nearest public transport is something which should be checked properly while you look out for a house on rent in Bangalore.

Always remember! Safety and comfort are the pre-requisites of a healthy living. So, make your decisions wisely.
