Getting a good night’s sleep is very important part of our health and well being.

If you don’t get enough sleep you will feel tired and very irritable.

10 Reasons Why You Are Not Sleeping At Night

1. Anxiety And Depression

Anxiety and depression are some of the main reasons why you can’t sleep at night.

Anxiety and depression are big subjects to talk about and can be difficult to pinpoint, they are all related to stress.

Anxiety and depression and stress can’t be solved without knowing the root of the problem.

There are many reasons why people get anxiety, depression  and stress, some of the reasons include:

*Illness

*Family problems

*Money worries

Bad relationships

Loneliness

*Trauma

*Anger management problems.

2. Lack Of Sleeping Routine

Establishing a sleeping routine that works out for you is a good idea to avoid insomnia.

3. Eating Unhealthy Food

Bad eating habits can have a negative impact on your sleep.

Evaluate what you are eating by having a food diary and make changes to healthy eating.

Healthy eating is very important in establishing good sleeping habits.

4. Say No To Screen Blue Light

Do you have a TV in your bedroom?

Do you use a computer, tablet or smartphone in your bedroom?

Do you read your Kindle in bed?

All these have a blue light which delays the amount of time you sleep and makes your sleeping time shorter.

5. Eating Too Many Sugary Foods

Have you got a sweet tooth?

Eating sugary things like sweets, chocolate, biscuits just before bed time is not good for you, as your blood glucose levels will increase.

Whilst you are trying to sleep your body will be trying to stabilizing blood glucose levels.

6. Drinking Caffeinated Drinks Before Bed

We all know that if you want to stay alert you need a bit of caffeine boost.

Caffeinated drinks make you more alert so you should be avoiding them just before bed.

You can swap your caffeinated drinks for decaffeinated tea or decaffeinated coffee.

7. Eating Dinner Late

Avoid eating dinner just before bed time to give your body time to digest food before bed.

If you eat your dinner late and go to bed your body will try to digest food whilst you are trying to sleep which might affect your sleeping pattern.

8. Exercising Just Before Bed

However, you should not exercise just before bed because your body need to cool down afterwards.

9. Too Much Light In Your Bedroom

Too much light can interfere with your sleeping pattern.

Using blackout curtains or blackout blinds is a great way to promote a good sleeping pattern.

They help you to sleep better by keeping your bedroom dark.

10. Bedroom Too Warm Or Too Cold

Try to keep your bedroom temperature around 18 Degrees Celsius as this is an ideal bedroom temperature according to National Sleep Foundation.
