Do you want to be fit, healthy and achieve that instagrammable body that you always admire?
It takes some serious willpower to finally get yourself off your favourite couch, change into your gym clothes and leave the comfort of your home only to beat your body at the gym.
That’s why it’s frustrating when, after a week of diligently following your routine, you look at yourself in the mirror only to see that your love handles are apparently too clingy to leave you alone.
Let’s be honest. You can’t stay in the gym forever.
Good news is, you can achieve your desired results not only by working hard but also by working smart.
Here are some tips you could follow:
Tip 1 – Get Proper Motivation
Motivation has two types. Intrinsic, which stems from your innermost desire, and extrinsic which means it comes from outer source.
Either way, having a strong motivation could get you in the mood to workout.
Find motivation that would light the fire inside you and don’t let anyone extinguish that fire.
This will be your driving force to diligently follow your routine.
Consistency is crucial when it comes to fitness and weight loss.
And without proper motivation, you could easily give in to temptation (which isn’t really hard to do)
*You can start by asking yourself, “Why do I want to lose weight?”
Write down your answers and when you are feeling particularly disheartened, read them again so that you can remember why you started in the first place.
*Track your progress through a graph or a chart so that you can visualize how far you’ve come in your fitness journey.
This will not only make you feel good about your achievement. It could also gear you up to do that extra push.
*Another tip is you can pick songs and music that you will only play while you are working out.
This will tune your mind and body and add fire to your motivation.
Tip 2 – Hydration Is The Key
When you workout, you sweat. When you sweat, you feel good. You’re finally burning the donuts you ate last night!
Why do you sweat, anyway?
When you workout, your body’s metabolism increases, your heart rate quickens and your core body temperature rises.
When this happens, your body will do something to rid itself of the heat.
In response to this, the sweat glands in your skin will produce sweat and when it evaporates, your body heat is transferred to the environment, decreasing your body temperature.
Water is not the only one that you lose when you sweat, however. You also lose electrolytes.
And since your muscles are made up of 75% water, and you need electrolytes to ensure that your muscles can contract and relax without a problem, you need to replenish and rehydrate.
This could lead to better muscle development and healthier cells.
Don’t take your water and electrolytes for granted!
Tip 3 – Understand Your Calories
When you workout, your aim is to burn calories.
To do so, the calories you burn should be more than the calories you take in.
This is where diet comes into the picture.
To give you an idea on the importance of your food intake to your workout routine, let’s talk about food in numbers.
Take note that carbohydrates have 4 calories per gram. The same goes for protein. Fats, on the other hand, have 9 calories per gram.
Eating foods that are rich in fiber could make you feel fuller for a longer period of time. This will prevent you from eating more and chasing that happy-tummy feeling.
Protein also helps in muscle development so make sure to add a generous amount of it in your diet.
Carbohydrates, although must be taken in lesser amounts, should not be completely eliminated from your diet because it is your main source of energy.
Tip 4 – Choose Quality Over Quantity
It isn’t about the number of reps you’ve done.
It’s about how each of these contributes to your body’s development.
Prioritize the quality over the quantity of your workout.
Push your muscles to work as hard as they could for the smallest span of time.
This could help tone your body better.
This will make you finish up faster and get home earlier, giving your muscles the precious time that they need to recover and heal.
It is during the recovery process that your muscles develop and tone up.

After you just sacrificed your nap time to go to the gym?
No, you’re not.
This could only mean that you just added another day of (torture) training in your schedule.
So how can you reward yourself better?
Think: Reward your body and not your ego.
Eat healthier foods.
Treat your body to a healthy meal so that it can heal itself.
You owe your body good nutrition after making it do all those reps and carry all those weights. Remember that.
